Here today for your consideration we have this fantastic Art Deco sterling silver goblet, being of Australian manufacture c-1929. The goblet was presented as the Xmas 1929 Kent House Tennis Cup by R.T. Trembath Esq. to Shirley Campbell and W L Archer. The goblet is in good used condition, with no major damage to note (the rim slightly misshapen, nothing too serious). The engraving is in good order as is the hallmark, with the base sitting flush on a level surface. An understated and useful sterling silver goblet for the collection.
The piece stands just over 15cm tall and has a diameter of just over 7.5cm at the rim. It has a capacity of 200mls to the rim, and weighs in at 177gms unpacked.
A Trove article from 1935 mentions both Trembath & Campbell in relation to Kent House in Queenscliff (now 15 Swanston Street), and whilst my research has been unable to confirm the presence of a tennis court on the grounds at that time, they certainly would have been sizable enough to accommodate one. Given the Australian manufacture of the goblet, I believe this to be the most likely Kent House in which the cup refers to.
