Here today for your consideration we have this lovely Edwardian sterling silver travelling ink well, made by Edward Souter Barnsley of Birmingham, c-1902. The piece is of bulb-like form with repousse detail throughout and gilt interior, being of good quality throughout. Condition is fair used, with a few depressions to the silver body and the clasp latching softly due to some distortion of the lid. The interior gilding has some ink staining as does the original glass bottle, with the internal lid closing and locking nicely. The exterior silver would have originally been fully gilt, with some traces remaining. The inkwell features a well executed monogram to the lid, with the hallmarks about 80% overall. A sweet early 20th century decorative piece of silver for the collection.
The inkwell stands 5cm tall and has a diameter of 5.5cm at the middle. Unpacked, it weighs in at 115gms (weighted base).
