Here today for your consideration we have this beautiful Victorian sterling silver four-piece christening set, made by Hilliard & Thomason of Birmingham, c-1856. The set includes a knife, fork, spoon and mug of matching design and hallmark, being of very good quality and gauge throughout. Condition is reasonably good used, with no major damage to note. The set appears have originally had a monogram to each piece, with the mug buffed out and the flatware set applied over with a vacant silver shield (per photos). The brightwork to the blade and back of spoon bowl and fork is crisp, with the hallmarks about 70% overall. The box is shabby and has been relined at some point, with the clasp only latching under considerable force. A very lovely mid 19th century English silver christening set with mug in rare original triangular box.
The mug has a comfortable capacity of 100mls and stands 8cm tall with the knife, spoon and fork measuring 19.5cm, 17.5cm and 16cm long respectively. The boxed set weighs in at 636gms, with the silver pieces amounting to 166gms of this weight.
