Here today for your consideration we have this wonderful late Art Deco solid 9ct yellow gold bar brooch, featuring an oval black opal (likely doublet) made by Apex of Australia, c-1940's. The brooch is of splayed bar design with applied leaf detail around the cabochon, being of nice design and quality. Condition is reasonably good used, with the opal having a few minor surface scratches and the bar having some disruption to the gold to one side (per photos). The metal pin holds good tension within the catch, with provision for a safety chain near the hinge. The brooch features a well executed monogram to the reverse, and is hallmarked in two places. A vibrant Australian opal brooch in solid gold.
The opal measures 10mm x 6mm with the bar having an overall length of 51mm. Unpacked, it weighs in at 2.57gms.
